Upper
Flows are perfect for fishing with some color.
Dry fly fishing is excellent for brook trout near the Deep Creek confluence. Black drake mayflies along with small blue winged olives and pale morning duns were hatching. . Black Drake mayflies should be prolific throughout. Best fishing for Redband Trout is below the old Rocky Ford crossing.
Sand Creek and Yamsi Ranches offer exceptional pay to fish operations.
Lower
Flows have dropped and the river is very fishable.
The yellow sally stonefly hatch is going strong at the ODFW boat ramp and downstream. These small yellow stoneflies are most active from 7-9 pm. Lots of other insects are hatching as well including golden stoneflies, Epeorus mayflies, PMD mayflies, white miller caddisflies, and a few salmonflies still around.
Most of the catch is 8 to 14 inch Redband Trout but bigger Redband Trout are moving in from the lake. These bigger trout will take large leech, streamer and wooly bigger patterns as well as lures mimicking minnows.
