Fall Chinook is open on the Yaquina! Like its neighbors the fishery is off to a slower start this early in the season. Overall for both coho and Chinoook its been a slow start to the season, with not many fish being caught. Your best bet in the Yaquina is lower in the bay and tidewater this time of year and like its neighbors early season trolling is often the best technique. There aren't many bank angling spots on the lower Yaquina but there are a few spots near the water tank.
Wild Coho retention opened on the Yaquina Saturday 13 September! The coho fishery on the Yaquina comes in hot when we get the first rains with big pushes of fish entering the system. Coho tend to be a bit more aggressive when they first move in and provide an excellent harvest opportunity in the basin!
Coastal Cutthroat will be distributed throughout the Yaquina basin and should be really pushing into the system this time of year. Yaquina Bay offers additional opportunity for crabbing, clamming, and near shore marine fishing off the jetties. Though it may be slower for freshwater fisheries this time of year! Anglers are reminded to check the regulations for use of bait and whether there are closed streams.
