Idaho Fish Report

The Trask gets a run of hatchery spring Chinook salmon and a few have been caught at the hatchery hole and Loren's Drift and I've heard of a couple further upriver, but overall fishing is slow to fair. During the early season, and with the river being low, the majority of fish will still be down in the bay or tidewater but more fish should be pushing into the river this month. The Salmon/Steelhead Bobber Fishing Rule went into effect May 1st from the marker at Loren's drift up to Cedar Creek boat slide (See page 18 of the sport fishing regulations booklet for details).

Trout season opened in the streams on May 22nd and there are coastal cutthroat trout throughout the Trask basin, including the forks. The low clear water can make fishing a little challenging, but cutthroat are aggressive biters so use light line and stealthy tactics, concentrate on deep pools with cover, and you should find success. Many areas have bait restrictions in place so check the regulations for those and open areas before heading out.
