Idaho Fish Report

Wild coho retention opened on the Alsea Saturday September 13, 2025! Fish are definitely around and still coming into and further up tidewater in the Alsea Basin, though the bite is still fair. Going into the weekend we have rain on the forecast which will likely lead to more fish being caught! The Alsea wild coho retention will close for retention October 12. It will reopen October 25.

Fall Chinook is open on the Alsea but has been a slower start to the season. Fish are around the lower bay and are moving further up into the basin with the recent rains. Overall, the bite is fair but we should see more fish being caught moving into this weekend after even more rain!

Coastal Cutthroat will be distributed throughout the Alsea basin and provide an excellent and fun opportunity during the remainder of the summer months. As we move into August cutthroat will continue moving throughout the basin. With the lower waters, hitting the river in the early mornings before temperatures rise can be a good bet for landing cutthroat in the basin! Anglers are reminded/ to check the regulations for use of bait and whether there are closed streams.
