Fishing for trout and whitefish can be good

Fishing for trout and whitefish can be good in the upper Imnaha River throughout the summer. Whitefish aggregate in large schools and can provide a great angling opportunity.

Down river, smallmouth bass move into the Imnaha River from the Snake River. Anglers can catch bass on a variety of gear types including spinners, plastic baits, and flies.

Relatively few Imnaha River spring Chinook have been observed migrating up the Columbia River. Because of these low returns, there will not be a fishery for Chinook salmon on the Imnaha River this year.

Anglers should remember they might encounter bull trout in the Imnaha River. They cannot be harvested and must be released.
